Is is worth upgrading from the HTC One M8 to the HTC One M9?

HTC showcased its 3rd generation flagship in MWC, the One M9. While it is so much more better than last years One M8 (it has to be! It the M8's successor), for all you One M8 owners, is it worth the upgrade? Let's find out.

Now to kick things off, physically, the M8 and M9 look similar, if not identical. They're both extremely well designed devices made of an aluminium unibody and having a gentle curve on the back with identical antennae cut outs and front facing speakers. But there are technical similarities too! The displays are essentially the same, coming in at a 5' 1080p SLCD-3 display with on-screen buttons.

Pick 'em up, and the differences will become more apparent. While they weigh about the same, the M8 and M9 have different 'sides'. Where the M8 had rounded corners which made the metal seamlessly meet the glass, the M9 is more reminiscent of the M7, with its flat sides. The power button has recieved its much needed relocation from the top of the phone to the right side of the phone & as a bonus, it's been given a distinctive texture. These are the small cosmetic changes which make a difference.

On the inside, things are beefed up. To keep up with the new 64bit mobile computing trend, the One M9 is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 810, which consists of a quadcore Cortex A57 clocked at 2GHz and a quadcore Cortex A53 clocked at 1.5GHz, the Adreno 430 graphics processor and 3GB RAM (50% more than the M8). To compare, the M8 is powered by a Snapdragon 801 with a quadcore 32bit Krait 400 clocked at 2.5/2.3 GHz coupled with the Adreno 420 GPU and 2GB RAM. For those who like to be on the latest and greatest of technology, this itself is a major reason to upgrade.

But not all of you'all will be using this as a mini computer, and that will make them hesitant to upgrade. The HTC Boomsound speakers have also received a little boost, now featuring Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. Now, the only thing remaining in this comparison, is the cameras... and boy did HTC listen to our complaints.

The M9 features and all new Toshiba made 20MP camera with f2.2 which is protected by sapphire and has ditched last year's duo-camera setup. But the Ultrapixel is not vanished. HTC found the perfect use for that innovate sensor.... and that is as the front facing camera. This is no surprise because we've seen this in HTC's own Desire 826.

That's it for now folks. If you want more coverage on the HTC M9, make sure you like this article and follow the blog. Thanks for reading.
